Meet
Dr. Zimmer-Galler

Dr. Ingrid Zimmer-Galler, a Johns Hopkins and Tulane-trained retina specialist, has over 25 years of experience in ophthalmology, medical retina, and vitreoretinal surgery. She completed her residency at the Mayo Clinic and fellowship training at the Wilmer Eye Institute, where she later served as Associate Professor and the first Medical Director of the Frederick satellite clinic.

A pioneer in telemedicine, Dr. Zimmer-Galler helped lead national efforts in remote retinal imaging and served as the first Executive Director of Telemedicine for Johns Hopkins. Her work has been widely published, and she’s been an invited speaker at major conferences worldwide.

In 2020, she founded Retina First to provide expert, personalized retina care to her local Frederick County community. She’s also a certified pilot and aviation safety consultant for the FAA. A long-time resident of Frederick County, Dr. Zimmer-Galler has now expanded Retina First with a second location in Frederick.
